Petroleum Ministry has lifted ban on CNG-fitted buses and vans after talks with CNG Association.

The talks in Islamabad were attended by respresentatives of the Petroleum Ministry and the All Pakistan CNG Association. The meeting took up the issue of ban on CNG filling in vans and buses. The ban was imposed after a rapid increase in cylinder explosions in public transport that resulted in loss of precious lives. However, the Ministry yielded to the pressure from the CNG Association and transporters. The federal government had also ordered crackdown on companies making substandard CNG cylinders. However, the order was merely taken in letter as public transport, particularly rickshaws, continue to roam about the cities with their locally manufactured cylinders which serve as bombs on the wheels.
