CNG stations open in Lahore, industrial supply shut

While CNG stations opened in Lahore and Multan Thursday morning, gas to industries was shut.

CNG stations in Lahore and Multan reopened at 6am and stations in Sindh opened at 9am.Long queues of vehicles have been witnessed at all CNG stations, and the situation is likely to stay this way till late in the evening.Sindh CNG Association and transporters have announced to observe strike on December 31.Sindh CNG Association and Karachi Transport Ittehad (KTI) called for a strike on December 31 against hike in gas prices. CNG Association held a rally in Karachi the other day against shortage of gas. CNG dealers, owners and KTI also attended the rally.Protests were also held in Faisalabad against persistent loadshedding of gas. Residents complained that they didn’t have gas at all, forcing them to burn woods. Many daily wagers said that they were starving because of gas shortage as factories have been closed.Talking to the participants, KTI office-bearers said that efforts were being made to convert public transport vehicles over to diesel. However, such efforts would fail as the vehicles would continue to run on CNG.Leaders of CNG Association alleged that conspiracies were being hatched to close CNG stations. They said that suspension of gas to CNG stations and 14 percent hike in gas prices from January 1st is also a part of these conspiracies.The leaders also decided that all CNG stations, petrol pumps and transport will observe complete strike on December 31.
