LAHORE (Dunya News) - Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari said that the 44-year rain record in Lahore was broken on Thursday, but within a few hours, the rainwater was drained from roads and hospitals.

Azma Bukhari while talking to the media, said that it is the government's responsibility to take steps to reduce the people's sufferings. She said that till now 337 mm of rain has been recorded. She further said that rains cannot be stopped but the sufferings of the people could be reduced.

The minister said that work was going on to drain rainwater on Lytton Road. She said that rainwater was also being removed from the sides of Gaddafi Stadium. She said that Services Hospital was highlighted more due to rain. She said that water came from an open window.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is personally monitoring the situation, the minister said.

The information minister further highlighted the situation caused by rains in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. She advised that nobody should play politics on natural disasters as the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa belonged to them. She blamed hospitals in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are flooded with rain waters.

Those who have enjoyed the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for 11 years are talking about rainwater. The people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were dying of dengue and the leader was in the mountains, Azma Bukhari said.
