LAHORE (Dunya News) – Downpour in several parts of Lahore resulted in loss of five lives and injuries to 25 people. 

The roof of a house at a village near Baba Bulleh Shah Interchange at Gajjumata (Lahore) collapsed which resulted in one death and left five people injured. 

Another roof fell off at Shaukat Khanum Chowk where two people suffered injuries. One of the injured was taken to the Jinnah Hospital for treatment. 

In two incidents, electric shock claimed lives of two citizens. 

According to Rescue sources, a 30-year-old man travelling by a motorbike suffered an electric shock after coming into contact with an electricity pole. The deceased could not be identified. 

The other incident took place on the premises of Kot Lakhpat police station where a citizen upon touching an electricity pole suffered a heavy electric shock. He was taken to the General Hospital but was declared dead on arrival. 

RECORDBREAKING RAIN IN LAHORE 

The Punjab governement has declared rain emergency in Lahore after it experienced the highest rainfall in 44 years. The rain resulted in flooding of low-lying areas. 

A heavy downpour in several areas inundated roads and streets in the provincial capital and motorists faced immense difficulties while trying to carry on with their routine work. 

Rain caused disruption of electricity in parts of Lahore as dozens of feeders of the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) tripped. The Met Office has predicted that the current rain spell in the country will continue till Aug 6.
