Provincial minister says random drug tests start from July to combat drug abuse
KARACHI (Dunya News) - Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader and provincial minister Sharjeel Memon stressed the need for accountability for those who consider themselves above the law.
While speaking in the Sindh Assembly the minister noted that the public held the government accountable through their votes on Feb 8. There is a significant majority for the Pakistan People's Party in the house. The people are the ultimate judges, and they will make the final decisions, he added.
Memon highlighted that the excise department was tasked with recovering Rs203 billion. He said that the cabinet decided to implement random drug tests starting July 1 to combat drug abuse. Drug tests will be conducted in schools, he maintained.
He also announced that the Sindh government implemented AI software to quickly identify and address public issues. He said that the assembly passed legislation for the protection of journalists.
Memon stated that the government launched a biometric system for vehicle registration and is taking action against fake number plates.
Likewise, Memon outlined the government's achievements, including the launch of a shuttle service between Orange Line BRT and Green Line within the first 100 days. He also highlighted ongoing work on the Yellow Line BRT, a $438 million project. The government, he said, is also planning to construct a double-story bus stand to address land issues in Karachi.
