Mohsin Naqvi assures Pope Francis of minorities' protection

Pope Francis lauded the Pakistan government’s efforts to renovate churches.
LONDON (Dunya News) – Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met Pope Francis in the Vatican City.
During his foreign tour, Naqvi visited the Vatican City where he was accorded a warm welcome. He called on Pope Francis and the bilateral talks revolved around the imperative of inter-faith harmony.
Pope Francis lauded the Pakistan government’s efforts to renovate churches after the infamous Jaranwala case.
In his message, the Pope said he wanted peace and amity in Pakistan. He said he would try to undertake a visit to Pakistan as the prime minister had extended him an invitation.
He expressed his anguish over the Palestine unrest and said he daily sought briefing from aid workers on the situation. Only dialogue and inter-faith harmony could help solve the problems afflicting the world, he said.
Interior Minister Naqvi appreciated Pope Francis’ stance on Palestine and apprised him of the Pakistan government’s efforts to root out terrorism. “It is our foremost duty to provide protection to the minorities in Pakistan,” he added.
“Our religion and Prophet (Peace be upon him) exhorted to protect minorities,” he said. The constitution also promised freedom to the minorities, he added.
The Pope was all praise for Pakistan’s efforts to promote harmony and providing a decent living to the minorities.
