Election Tribunals are hearing cases of various candidates who submitted their nomination papers
KARACHI (Dunya News) – An Election Tribunal on Tuesday rejected the second appeal against Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president Shehbaz Sharif from National Assembly constituency NA-242.
The tribunal heard the appeal of Hasnain Chauhan who submitted that Shehbaz did not affix a valid affidavit along with his nomination papers.
He said that Shehbaz made a false statement regarding his business in the affidavit. He appealed the tribunal to set aside the decision of returning officer and reject Shehbaz's nomination papers.
It may be recalled that Shahid Orakzai filed an appeal from NA-132 against Shehbaz “identifying him as the mastermind of an attack on the Supreme Court on November 28, 1997.”
The applicant contended that Shehbaz was present on the day of the attack at the Prime Minister's Secretariat along with his elder brother, Nawaz Sharif, who was prime minister.
SHEHRYAR AFRIDI NOMINATION APPROVED
Meanwhile, a Peshawar tribunal approved nomination papers of PTI leader Shehryar Afridi.
It should be noted that the returning officer had rejected the papers of Afridi from National Assembly constituency NA-35 and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s PK-92 Kohat.
USMAN DAR’S MOTHER
An Election Tribunal set aside the decision of returning officer on the appeal of Rehana Dar, the mother of PTI leader Usman Dar, from National Assembly Constituency NA-71 Sialkot.
The returning officer rejected her nomination papers for non-payment of social security dues and non-disclosure of her assets.
She will contest elections against Khawaja Asif of PML-N.
ZULFIQAR MIRZA FAMILY
An Election Tribunal approved the nomination papers of Hasnain Mirza and Hassam Mirza, sons of former speaker of National Assembly Fahmida Mirza and Zulfiqar Mirza.
Interestingly, Zulfiqar and Fahmida Mirza have been barred from contesting election as the tribunal dismissed their appeals against the decision of returning officer.
The tribunal set aside the order of returning officer who rejected the nomination papers of Hassam and Hasnain.
FIRDAUS SHAMIN NAQVI
The Sindh High Court allowed PTI’s Firdaus Shamim Naqvi to contest election after rejecting an appeal against approval of his nomination papers.
A division bench headed by Justice Adnan Chaudhry heard the petition of MQM’s Hassan Saber. The returning officer had rejected his papers from NA-236 constituency but an Election Tribunal rejected his decision.
