Special Court sets Oct 17 to indict PTI chief, Qureshi in cipher case

The officials handed over the challan copies to the PTI lawyers

(Dunya News) – The Special Court, established under the Official Secret Act, fixed Oct 17 to charge the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman and its vice-chairman (VC) in the cipher case.

The Special Court’s Judge Abual Hasnat Muhammad Zulqarnain heard the cipher case at the Adiala Jail on Monday. Former Prime Minister and chief of the PTI and former foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi were produced before the court. The special prosecutor Zulfiqar Naqvi and defence counsel, Salman Safdar and Zain Qureshi, son of PTI VC, also joined the proceedings.

The PTI chief’s legal team was also allowed for a brief meeting with him.

The Federal Investigation Agency team and investigation officials also reached the jail and handed over the challan copies to the PTI lawyers.

During case proceedings, the prosecutor told court that complete copies of the case could not be provided, however, necessary copies were delivered. The court ordered issuance of notices to summon the official witnesses and adjourned the case till Oct 17 to charge both accused of the case.

After proceedings, the judge, the prosecutor and FIA team returned from the jail.
