Fazl flays caretakers for deportation of ‘illegal Afghan residents’

PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Saturday criticised the caretaker government’s policy for deportation of illegal Afghan immigrants, stating that this very policy was a recipe for bitterness and resentment with Afghanistan.

In his address to participants of a social media convention here, Fazl said that apparently the drive was launched against the illegal migrants, but regretted that even those possessing registration cards with Pakistan were being targeted.

Fazl mentioned that his party had called for the formation of a bilateral commission to address the underlying issues between Pakistan and Afghanistan, but regretted that all their efforts drew a blank.

The JUI-F chief, while drawing attention to the external threats and internal challenges facing Pakistan, stated that these issues were getting complicated. “Our state is literally drowning while political groups are campaigning for the upcoming elections.”

Fazl noted that Pakistan still harboured certain pro-US elements who, according to him, were actively working on a US agenda.

In a reference to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman, Fazl mentioned that they (PDM-led coalition government) fought an ideological war and won it.

“While my opponent remains jailed, I keep issuing statements against him… this won’t work… I want my opponent uncuffed,” remarked Fazl while making his intentions clear that he wanted every politician out of jail ahead of the general elections.

Fazl mentioned that his party had also held rallies and gatherings, but within legal boundaries. He added that they had assembled everyone under the umbrella of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) to save the unity of country.

Fazl recalled that he had pointed to the Pakistan’s falling economy even before the no-confidence motion against the PTI chairman, emphasising that a weakening economy would lead to erosion of public trust in the system.
