Pakistan lodges protest with Afghan diplomat over Chitral attacks

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - A demarche has been issued to the Afghan charge d’affaires in connection with the terrorist attack on two military posts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Chitral district, Interim Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani said on Saturday.

Addressing a press conference, the foreign minister, in response to a query, said that Pakistan summoned the charge d’affaires in Islamabad and lodged a strong protest over the incident.

Jilani said that it was the responsibility of the Afghan government to stop cross-border attacks from within its soil. “We expect that the Afghan government will suppresses all elements such as the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).”

Jilani termed the Chitral incident ‘unfortunate’, and said the Pakistan government was taking such incidents very seriously.

“Pakistan demands the Afghan government ensure such incidents do not occur again.”

On Wednesday, at least four security personnel were martyred, while more than 16 terrorists were killed in an exchange of fire cross along the border with Afghanistan. Terrorists had attacked two security checkpoints in the southern part of Chitral.
