Says people with such jealousy and hate shouldn’t be in electoral race
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah on Wednesday said he did not see the mob attacking the country’s defence on May 9 taking part in politics – a statement that came as Pakistan awaits general elections in the coming months.
Rana Sana, who is a senior PML-N leader and a close aide of both party supremo Nawaz Sharif and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, told a private TV channel that the people with just jealousy and hate must not be a part of country’s politics and elections.
About the electoral process, he said holding the polls was a responsibility of Election Commission. Organising a transparent and fair elections required a person enjoying the trust of everyone.
Rana Sana said the 90 days was the maximum limit which didn’t mean that the polling should be held on the very last day [90th]. Elections could be held in 60 or 70 days, he stressed while making it clear that the process for national and provincial assemblies would be held on the same day.
The statement came just before the news about Azam Khan – principal secretary to the former prime minister – appeared as he said the then premier had "pre-planned" the US cypher drama.
Khan, who had been "missing" since last month, had recorded his statement under the CrPC 164 before a magistrate.
The former bureaucrat, in his confession, said when he provided the ex-premier with the cypher, he was "euphoric" and termed the language as a "US blunder".
He then said, according to Khan, that the cable could be used for "creating a narrative against establishment and opposition".
Moreover, he also told Khan that the cypher could be used to divert the public's attention towards "foreign involvement" in the opposition's no-confidence motion.
The ex-premier told him [Khan] he would display the cypher in front of the public and "twist the narrative: a foreign conspiracy is being hatched in collusion with local partners and play [the] victim card.
