MBBS graduate remains jobless despite winning 29 gold medals

LAHORE (Web Desk) – A post has been making rounds on the internet platforms of an MBBS graduate – who has won 29 gold medals for topping in various subjects – has revealed that he has not gotten any job yet.

Hafiz Muhammad Waleed Malik made headlines last year when he secured 29 gold medals and distinctions in his medical education. The previous record was held by a female MBBS student from King Edwards Medical College who won 23 gold medals.

Malik believes that jobs in hospitals are not given on merit due to the "sifarish culture" in the country.

Recently, Malik responded to a question on Instagram, saying that he had applied to multiple hospitals but did not get a job. He also said that the situation of jobs is on sifarish rather than merit.

Taking to Instagram, Malik wrote, "Applied for 20+ hospitals, didn't get job. Situation of jobs is 99% sifarish and 1% merit. I might be wrong but that's what I observed. Only the merit should prevail but this system is beyond repair."

Malik said that he completed his MBBS from Amiruddin Medical College in Lahore last year and then did a house job at the Lahore General Hospital.

Malik further maintained: "Usually job positions are not vacant in private hospitals, and even if they are available, medical graduates are hired on the recommendation of professors."

Malik said he has still not secured a job at any hospital, several months after he graduated from medical college.

Dr Waleed said he has applied in more than twenty hospitals but has not received any job offer. He said the appointments are being made on ‘sifarish’ (favouritism) rather than on merit.
