Holding separate elections would be equivalent to dividing the country into two parts

KARACHI (Web Desk) – Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has announced protest across Sindh province on Tuesday (April 25) demanding elections across the country on the same day.

This announcement comes as the polls in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) face delays.

PPP Sindh President Nisar Khuhro said that the elections should be conducted simultaneously under the Election Act, and that holding separate elections would be equivalent to dividing the country into two parts.

PPP leader Manzoor Wassan has also warned that if important decisions are not made in April, many people may end up going to jail or abroad in May.

He added that a state of emergency may be imposed in the country if the elections are postponed.

Mr Wassan further criticized Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, saying that even if the general elections are held, Khan will not become the prime minister.

The call for the protest comes amid existing uncertainty regarding the date of the polls, as the ruling coalition demands elections on the same day across the country.

The Supreme Court has ordered snap polls and directed opposition political parties to immediately thrash out a consensus on the date of elections.

The PPP and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have assured the court that they would sit with the PTI and try to find a solution via dialogue.

However, a faction of the ruling coalition, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, refuses to make any compromise as long as PTI is concerned.
