Arbitration Court orders halting Kishanganga Dam

Dunya News

The arbitration court has stayed construction of Kishanganga Dam by India.

Pakistan had registered a case against India’s Kishanganga Dam in World Bank’s arbitration court after 17 years.Pakistan had raised two major objections over India’s Kishanganga Project. First, Kishanganga River’s route cannot be diverted. Second, the water level cannot be taken below the dead-storage-level of the dam.Pakistani representative had submitted documents related to the case in Hague’s court. The court, which consists of seven judges, ruled that the construction of the dam should be halted at once.India may now be asked to either amend the design of the dam as per Pakistan’s reservations. It may well be asked to dismantle a few portions of the dam violating the Indus Water Treaty. The court said that Pakistani and Indian teams will visit the dam site, and the dam may be disallowed.
