Mass graves prelude to graver HR abuses: Mirwaiz Umar Farooq
He said that 9,000 Kashmiris remained untraced after their enforced disappearance.
Calling the discovery of mass graves as only the tip of iceberg, Hurriyat Conference Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq urged the international community to probe the issue and address the “larger problem of gross human rights violations in Kashmir.”Talking to Dunya News in London, Mirwaiz said that the international community should send probing team to Kashmir for fact finding.He said that 9,000 Kashmiris remained untraced after their “enforced disappearance” in government forces’ custody and, therefore, the discovery of mass graves was just a small prelude to “graver human rights violations committed against Kashmiris.”“The best way to stop these crimes against humanity is to resolve the Kashmir issue according to the wishes and aspirations of Kashmiri people,” Mirwaiz said.For the past sixty three years, Mirwaiz said, the people of Kashmir “were living an uncertain life, under oppression and injustice and changing this situation is the need of the hour.”Lord Nazir Ahmad, member of the House of Lords, said on the occasion that after the arrest of Dr Ghulam Nabi Fai, India wanted to close the Kashmir centre in London Brussels. He added that he would continue to raise voice for Kashmir independent movement in British parliament.
