ECP adjourns hearing in Imran’s removal as PTI chairman

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday adjourned the hearing in the case of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan’s removal as the party chief.

A five-member bench, headed by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja, heard the plea. Mr Khan was represented by Barrister Gohar.

Mr Gohar said the PTI chief had challenged the ECP’s notice in the Lahore High Court (LHC) and he had not received the orders of the previous hearing by the ECP. Bench member Ikramullah Khan remarked that Mr Khan should not rush to the court, adding that there was a possibility an unexpected decision might not be announced. The CEC remarked that the appellant did not appear before the ECP again on Wednesday.

Earlier, the LHC had barred the ECP from stripping Mr Khan as PTI chairman after his counsel argued that the ECP issued him the notice “illegally”.
