Police used force to disperse protestors from outside CM House in Karachi.

KARACHI (Dunya News) - Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) joint organiser succumbed to wounds after police used force and baton-charged demonstrators in order to disperse protesters from outside Sindh CM House in Karachi on Wednesday 

The MQM workers had staged a sit-in protest in front of the Sindh CM House against the Sindh local government act. Due to the sit-in, the traffic system was badly disrupted and the citizens faced severe difficulties.

According to the traffic police, Dr Ziauddin Road in front of the CM House was closed for traffic. Corridor 3 leading from Empress Market to Mazar-e-Quaid was also closed for traffic. 

In addition, traffic on the main roads around the CM House was affected, while the flow of traffic on the Guru Mandir, Golimar and Lasbela roads was also affected.

Meanwhile, former mayor of Karachi Wasim Akhtar said that they were there to record protest against the local government act. He said large number of workers are participating to protest against this black law.

Notice of Interior Minister

After the violence against MQM workers, Federal Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed took notice and sought the report from Chief Secretary Sindh and IG Sindh.

Business centers were closed in various places

On the sit-in of MQM in Karachi against the local body law many business centers have been closed in various places after the police baton-charge. According to sources, unidentified persons closed business centers and shops in different areas of Karachi. The areas where the shopping malls were closed included Jacob Line, Lines Area, Burns Road, Gulshan-e-Iqbal and others.

Meanwhile, unidentified persons set tires on fires in Korangi No. 2.

MQM Pakistan announces Black Day on Thursday

Later, MQM Pakistan leader Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said that they would observe a black day tomorrow (Thursday) regarding the incident.

Talking to media, he said that the government of PPP has repeated its history. The manner in which women were treated at the rally is a matter of our honor. The tear gas shells that are fired, their money comes from our pockets.

He said that Prime Minister Imran Khan has to make it clear that he is with those who are breaking Pakistan or with those who are saving Pakistan. Action should be taken against Sindh Chief Minister. He further said that Prime Minister (PM) should suspend this IG and DIG. Former Nazim of New Karachi Town has lost his eye due to shelling.

The MQM leader went on to add that PPP has challenged us again, in the current situation we were cautious, democracy will remain as a result of our decisions, we consider democracy as the only way.

Continuing his speech, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said, "Pray for a racist Chief Minister. If the city stands still, then you know the consequences. The blood of Tando Allahyar had not yet dried up. You shed it again”.

Farooq Sattar

The MQM leader Dr Farooq Sattar while talking to media said that Chief Minister s House is more sacred than National Assembly where there can be no protest. The peaceful protest of MQM Pakistan has been made a target of state terrorism. I have come here to support the MQM workers. They will not be victimized but will also give full answer.

Fawad Chaudhry

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry took it to Twitter and stated that the MQM strongly condemns the Sindh government s bullying over peaceful protests, at a time when an event like PSL is about to take place. There was no justification, PTI Sindh leadership is closely monitoring the situation and all our support is with MQM.

Awais Shah Qadir

Provincial Minister Awais Shah Qadir said that the law of Pervez Musharraf cannot be brought back. Two of our ministers had gone to Jamaat-e-Islami. He raised the question that no such bill was passed in which their opinions were not included. He added that due to protests, the environment of the city is getting destroyed.

Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui

MQM convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui has said that police violence will soon be responded. Sindh government used the worst kind of violence on MQM rally.

Aminul Haq

Federal Minister for Information Technology Aminul Haq has said that the worst shelling and baton charges are being carried out. We are doing peaceful protest. The police has done baton charge without warning. Many of the protesters  health has deteriorated due to tear gas.

Haleem Adil Sheikh

On the other hand, Haleem Adil Sheikh, Leader of Opposition in Sindh Assembly, condemned the police crackdown on Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) workers and said that the opposition parties were against the Sindh Local Government Amendment Bill. It is a democratic right. It reflects the violent dictatorial thinking of the Sindh government against the political activists. The PTI condemns the use of force against any political party.

Saeed Ghani

Provincial Minister Saeed Ghani while talking to a private TV channel said that the situation became such that the administration had to take action in compulsion, PPP is not against any kind of protest.

Asad Umar

Federal Minister for Planning Asad Umar stated in a Tweet that the dictatorial style of government of the PPP is extremely condemnable.
The Constitution of Pakistan gives citizens the right to peaceful protest. The PPP s approach to suppressing dissent through the use of force is shameful.

Rehan Hashmi

MQM leader Rehan Hashmi said that sudden shelling was done on unarmed people. PPP is the worst dictator which uses the government institutes to demonstrate political power. The participants have difficulty breathing due to the worst shelling, women, children and the elderly also have been suffering.

Khurram Zaman

The PTI leader said that police violence at MQM rally is reprehensible. Sindh government is not ready to talk. He said that it was unfortunate that women were beaten with sticks. The bill was not allowed to be discussed in the assembly either.
