People involve in artificial shortage of urea to be dealt with iron hands: PM

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Friday that Pakistan produces 25,000 tons of urea daily, which is enough to meet its needs.

He was presiding over a meeting to review the demand and supply of fertilizers in Islamabad on Friday.

During the meeting, the prime minister said those involved in creating artificial shortage of urea in the country will be dealt with iron hands.

He said last year, the country produced record bumper crops of wheat, sugarcane, cotton and maize, adding that due to the government s agriculture friendly policies, farmers earned an additional 822 billion rupees in the fiscal year 2020-21.

Imran Khan went on to say that increased income has resulted in higher purchase of urea by farmers.

He said government is focusing on providing adequate amount of fertilizer for maximum production of wheat to ensure food security in the country.

The PM directed the authorities concerned to take all possible steps for efficient management of urea supply chain for Rabi crops.
