Presidential medal awarded to PIA Pilot for dealing with crisis-like situation at Kabul Airport
Captain chose to take off for Islamabad without directions from ATC.
KARACHI (Dunya News) – Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) pilot Maqsood Bajrani was awarded a presidential gold medal on Tuesday for dealing with a crisis like situation at Kabul Airport amid takeover of the city by Afghan Taliban.
Captain Bajrani of Airbus A320 was waiting to get clearance from Air Traffic Control when the Taliban took control of Afghanistan.
Captain chose to take off for Islamabad and started following fighter planes running ahead of the PIA plane as he thought it better to follow them.
