Torrential rain in twin cities inundates low-lying areas

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Intermittent torrential rain in Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Sunday has inundated low-lying areas.

According to details, the rain water has flooded the houses of the people whereas water level in Nullah Lai has also risen due to the downpour.

The patients are facing difficulties after rain water entered the wards of District Headquarters Hospital.

On the other hand, Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar has put all the relevant departments on alert in the wake of torrential rains in Rawalpindi and instructed to immediately start drainage work to remove water from low-lying areas.

In a statement, he said that all available resources will be utilized for drainage of rainwater and any negligence in this regard will not be tolerated.

He directed the district administration, Provincial Disaster Management Authority and Rescue 1122 to make all necessary arrangements to cope with any situation as a result of torrential rains.

He said officers should personally visit the field to monitor the efforts for drainage of rainwater instead of sitting in their offices.

As per Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), rain-wind-thundershower (with isolated heavy falls) is expected in Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, upper/central Punjab and Gilgit Baltistan.

Hot and humid weather is likely to prevail elsewhere in the country.
