Govt allies, opposition parties unite on Sindh water distribution issue

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Government allies and opposition parties have united on the issue of water distribution in Sindh with Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah raising the issue in Sindh Assembly while members of MQM and GDA are also on the same page.

Addressing Friday’s session of the Sindh Assembly, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah complained about the lack of water supply to the province and said that he had been hearing about improving water reserves through dams since childhood.

“We opposed the 1991 agreement, but even that commitment is not being fulfilled. I am putting the case of Sindh before the members”, he said.

Sindh’s Irrigation Minister Anwar Siyal had earlier said that Irsa was supporting Punjab and the PTI government was depriving Sindh of its right.

He said that Sindh’s water was being stolen by Punjab with the connivance of Irsa. He said that the share of Sindh’s GDP was 23 per cent in the country’s agriculture output.

On the other hand, the Punjab government has claimed that Sindh is being given more water than its share.
