Intra-Afghan Dialogue presents rare opportunity to end civil war in Afghanistan: FM Qureshi
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said that the Afghan leadership has a rare opportunity in the shape of intra-Afghan dialogue to end the 40-year-old civil war in Afghanistan. He has also commended the three-day ceasefire agreement between both parties on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.
On Friday, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi had a telephonic conversation with his Afghan counterpart Mohammad Hanif Atmar in which bilateral relations and issues of mutual interest including the Afghan peace process were discussed. The two Foreign Ministers also exchanged wishes on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.
The two Foreign Ministers also discussed the situation in Palestine and expressed deep concern and sorrow over the atrocities perpetrated on Palestinian Muslims. The two Foreign Ministers agreed to make joint efforts to draw the attention of the international community to the Palestinian issue.
Shah Mahmood reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to continue reconciliation efforts for peace in Afghanistan and stressed the need to keep an eye on the role of "spoilers" aspiring to sabotage peace efforts.
He said that all parties need to reduce violent incidents for lasting peace in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Success of the intra-Afghan dialogue can pave the way for comprehensive and lasting peace in Afghanistan, he added.
The Foreign Minister said that Pakistan would continue to support global efforts to build a peaceful, independent, united, stable and prosperous Afghanistan.
