Cabinet sub-committee recommends putting Shehbaz's name on ECL: Sheikh Rashid

LAHORE (Dunya News) - Cabinet sub-committee has recommended to put the name of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif on ECL.

A special meeting of cabinet sub-committee was held today (Wednesday), all members of committee unanimously recommended putting Shehbaz Sharif s name on the ECL. The final decision will be made by the federal cabinet.

Addressing a news conference in Islamabad, along with Prime Minister s Advisor on Interior and Accountability Shahzad Akbar, Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid said that Shehbaz Sharif was not on the blacklist adding that no accused could be treated in a special way.

The interior minister said that there are three lists to prevent someone from travelling abroad, one is the black list, into which someone s name is included by the Passport Office.

He said that the second is PNIL, into which someone s name is added by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the third is the Exit Control List (ECL) into which the federal cabinet has the authority to put someone s name.

He said that Shehbaz Sharif can request to appear before the committee within 15 days. The committee is bound to decide on Shehbaz Sharif s request within 90 days.

The minister while talking about the ban on the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan said that the government is waiting for their response in this regard. They too are allowed to appear in person to request a review, he added.

He said that 1,677 banned TLP workers who had been arrested under the MPO ordinance have been released.

Speaking on the occasion, Shahzad Akbar said Shehbaz Sharif has been facing multiple cases and their proceedings will come to halt if he is allowed to go abroad. He said Hudabiya Paper Mills case was closed on technical grounds, but factually it was not come to its logical conclusion. He said any case can be reopened if new evidences appear.

The Advisor said PML-N has become adept in misleading the people by coining a narrative that Shehbaz Sharif has been acquitted in that case.

Earlier interior ministry had received a formal application of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) seeking to include Shehbaz Sharif’s name on the ECL.

On the other hand, anti-graft watchdog had decided to move Supreme Court (SC) against Lahore High Court’s (LHC) decision of granting bail to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president and opposition leader in National Assembly (NA) Shehbaz Sharif in money laundering case.
