SC dismisses Shehbaz's abroad travel case after govt withdraws its plea
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The government of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Wednesday has withdrawn its appeal from Supreme Court (SC) against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president Shehbaz Sharif’s abroad travel.
During the hearing, the attorney general told the apex court that Shehbaz Sharif has also withdrawn his plea from Lahore High Court (LHC) over which, Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan remarked it means that the matter is over now.
Subsequently, the court has dismissed the case.
Earlier, LHC had approved Shehbaz Sharif’s appeal to withdraw all the petitions seeking removal of his name from the blacklist.
PML-N leader’s counsel Amjad Pervez said that his client wanted to withdraw his petitions. The government had already challenged the court’s directives in the SC, he told.
The lawyer said that its court’s duty to protect the rights of the citizens.
Prevuiously, Minister for Interior Sheikh Rashid had announced that the name of PML-N president was included in Exit Control List (ECL).
National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had recommended to put Shehbaz Sharif’s name on the ECL as it was investigating a corruption case of seven billion rupees against him, he pointed.
On May 7, the LHC gave one-time permission to Oppositon Leader of National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif to go abroad for medical treatment.
However, the federal government had barred him from travelling abroad and announced to challenge the court’s decision.
