LHC approves Shehbaz Sharif's bail in money laundering case

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday has approved bail of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president and Opposition Leader in National Assembly (NA) Shehbaz Sharif in money laundering case.

During the proceedings, National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor has argued that the lawyers of PML-N leader had presented inappropriate observance in previous hearing.

After hearing the arguments from both sides, the court has granted bail to Shehbaz Sharif and directed him to submit two surety bonds worth Rs5 million each.

Talking to media outside the court, PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah said truth has won today, adding that all the claims of Adviser to the Prime Minister on Interior and Accountability Shahzad Akbar have turned out to be false.

Earlier, Justice Ali Baqir Najfi said, “it’s a lesson for you. You should believe the decision after receiving its verified copy. It’s the duty of lawyer to avoid telling anything to his client before the release of written verdict.”

The PML-N leader’s counsel appealed the bench to look into the decisions submitted by both judges over which, Justice Ali Baqir remarked that we need to first see all the facts of the case after which, we will decide about granting bail to Shehbaz Sharif.

LHC Chief Justice Qasim Khan had formed a new bench to hear money laundering case against Shehbaz Sharif after one of the judges raised objection on granting him bail.

The development came after judges, who were hearing money laundering case, handed over their separate written verdicts on PML-N leader’s bail to the high court office.

Justice Asjad Javed in his dissenting note stated that fellow judge had approved the bail of Shehbaz Sharif despite his refusal whereas Justice Sarfraz Dogar told that the bail was granted on mutual consent.
