Lahore: Tahir Ashrafi urges protesters to hold peaceful demonstration

Tahir Ashrafi said that all the supply lines are disturbed due to the protest.

LAHORE (Dunya News) - Special Representative of the Prime Minister on Religious Harmony Maulana Tahir Ashrafi on Tuesday has urged the leaders of demonstrators, who are protesting in Lahore, to not create problems for people and remain calm.

In a statement, the special representative said that the issue can only be resolved through negotiations. What message we are giving to the world on the start of sacred month Ramzan, he asked.

Tahir Ashrafi further said that all the supply lines are disturbed due to the protest. 

It is to be mentioned here that protest by workers of a religious party had brought to standstill traffic in several major cities and highways; stranding thousands of commuters – women, elderly people and children.

Traffic remained paralyzed at Yateem Khana Chowk, Ferozpur Road, Shahdara, Daroghwala Chowk. In Faisalabad, traffic flow was severely affected due to closure of various highways.

Roads in different parts of Islamabad and Rawalpindi were also blocked, causing long queues of vehicles at entry and exit point of the cities.

In Karachi, Rangers personnel were deployed to keep law and order situation under control.
