ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Former Senate deputy chairman Saleem Mandviwalla on Tuesday has said that the government of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has been left baffled over cases under-hearing in Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
According to details, the ex-Senate deputy chairman has said that demanding ECP to resign is inappropriate. If someone disagrees with any decision, he should approach the court, he stated.
The reaction came after government representatives had demanded the commission to resign.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad on Monday, Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mehmood said the ECP had "completely failed" to fulfill its responsibilities.
"We do not trust the election commission and the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and members should step down from their posts," he said.
Shafqat Mahmood said that the ECP could not function in the current situation as the national institution was not playing the role of a neutral empire. He also clarified that the government has no intention of sending a reference against the ECP.
