ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has on Tuesday rejected Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) petition against Prime Minister Imran Khan concerning his statement over issuance of funds to assembly members and declared the application as inadmissible.

A three-strong ECP bench headed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa member Irshad Qaiser conducted hearing over matter of issuance of funds to women members before the Senate elections. PPP counsel Nayyar Bukhari maintained that PM Imran Khan – on March 1 in a TV program – talked about giving Rs 50 crore funds to the parliamentarians.

The ECP member from Balochistan inquired whether the statement was given regarding the Senate polls. He said the elections of the Upper House have been conducted and no funds were released. Nayyar Bukhari said multiple sections of the Election Act, 2017 were violated and making announcement is also against the law.

The lawyer argued that Section 181 was violated along with the electoral code of conduct. The premier kept meeting assembly members and also disgraced the ECP which are punishable offenses, he added. The plaintiff requested the election commission to summon the prime minister.

The PPP’s petition was rejected by the ECP.
