Govt prepares TORs for Boradsheet inquiry commission

The commission will determine financial loss to the country as a result of the closure of cases.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Federal government on Thursday finalized the Terms of References (TORs) for the one-member inquiry commission comprising of former Supreme Court judge Justice (r) Azmat Saeed formed to probe into broadsheet scandal.

The commission will have the power to form special committees comprising officers and experts for investigation.

According to the TORs, the commission will examine the selection, appointment process and contracts of Broadsheet and IAR and will examine the reasons and implications of the cancellation of contracts with Broadsheet and IAR in 2003. The commission will also identify reasons and effects of payments made by Pakistan to Broadsheet in 2008.

According to the TROs, the commission will look into whether the payment made in 2008 was legitimate and identify those responsible for fake payments of $1.5 million in 2008. It will also point out whether the case was effectively fought before the London courts.

According to the TROs, the commission will determine whether the payment process to the claimant was in accordance with the legal and prescribed rules and procedures and will also determine why cases filed for recovery of illegally acquired assets had been closed. The commission will also determine the financial loss to the country as a result of the closure of cases.
