The Central Power Purchase Agency demanded an increase in power tariff by Rs 0.68 per unit.
The Central Power Purchase Agency has filed an application to National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), maintaining that cost of power generation has gone up because furnace is being used to generate electricity due to the shortage of gas.The Central Power Purchase Agency said that 8,000 megawatt electricity was produced in May at a cost of Rs 39 billion so the electricity tariff should be raised by Rs 0.68 per unit.The tariff increase demand has been made for power distribution companies.NEPRA had already increased power tariff by Rs 1 in the profit of power distribution companies last month.The power tariff has been continuously increasing since the last three months due to the increase in furnace oil prices.
