Opposition, India on same page regarding FATF: PM
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that the opposition and India are on the same page regarding the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).
According to details, a meeting of government and party spokespersons was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Imran Khan.
The meeting briefed PM about steps taken to repatriate PML-N leader and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and on the Karachi Transformation Plan.
Regarding the role of the opposition in blocking the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) legislation, the Prime Minister said that India was making every effort to get Pakistan included in the FATF blacklist.
He said that the opposition has blocked the FATF legislation to blackmail the government. The opposition and India are on the same page regarding the FATF.
The Prime Minister said that in every democracy the opposition has an important role to play for the country, the present opposition is harming the country only to save its corruption. Opposition wants amendments to anti-money laundering law, he added.
Regarding Nawaz Sharif, he said that he was allowed to go abroad on humanitarian grounds and the government would not compromise on the Manifesto of Accountability.
Earlier, Babar Awan, Parliamentary Affairs Adviser, called on Prime Minister Imran Khan and discussed legislation and parliamentary matters related to FATF.
During the meeting, Dr. Babar Awan briefed the Prime Minister on pending bills of various ministries, FATF legislation, and important constitutional, legal and national issues.
The Prime Minister directed to convene a meeting of the National Assembly and the Senate from Monday and said that legislation in the interest of national security and public interest should not be delayed, the FATF laws will be passed in any case.
The Prime Minister said that full attention has been focused on improving the economic and social conditions. Every possible step is being taken to provide relief to the common man.
Talking on the occasion, Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Babar Awan said that relief was given to the people by not increasing the prices of petroleum products. The steps taken by the government for public relief are yielding positive results.
