SC vacates stay orders obtained by K-Electric against NEPRA actions
SC ordered NEPRA to appoint members of NEPRA tribunal in 10 days.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday vacated stay orders obtained by K-Electric against National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) actions and ordered the authority to use section 26 of its law.
Supreme Court, while hearing a suo moto case against load shedding in Karachi, remarked that K-Electric does not provide electricity to masses and also fails to pay its dues to government. It ordered NEPRA to take decision over K-Electric’s exclusive right to supply electricity to Karachi as per law.
Chief Justice of Pakistan also expressed anger at authorities and said that city’s mayor who remained in office for four years has failed to build even a single drain. He also asked “Where is writ of the Centre? Does government plan to run country in this manner?”
The court ordered NEPRA to appoint members of NEPRA tribunal in 10 days and also submit progress report on the actions taken.
