Federal cabinet postpones implementation on increase in PTV fees

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Federal cabinet meeting has postponed the increase in fees of Pakistan Television (PTV) after the objections were raised by some federal ministers.

According to the details, the fee of Pakistan Television (PTV) was increased from Rs 35 to Rs 100 by the federal government.
After which there was a commotion on all sides including social media and the government was demanded to withdraw this increase immediately.

The country s politicians had also raised their voices against the increase in fees and criticized the government.

According to sources, a meeting of the federal cabinet was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

During the meeting, some ministers objected to the increase in Pakistan Television (PTV) fees.

According to the sources, during the federal cabinet meeting, Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry, Federal Minister for Water Resources Faisal Vawda, Federal Minister Murad Saeed and Shireen Mazari opposed the increase in PTV license fee.

Federal ministers said that the matter should be discussed in the National Assemblyb (NA).The cabinet cannot impose such a tax or levy without the approval of the National Assembly, PTV has not been able to submit its business plan for two years.

The cabinet members raised the question that the total budget of 110 private channels is Rs38 billion, Why do government need Rs22 billion for PTV alone?

According to sources after the objections from the ministers in the federal cabinet, the issue of raising the PTV fee from Rs35 to Rs100 has been postponed.

According to sources, implementation on the increased fee will remain suspended till the public is taken into confidence.
