Lawyers burning case: 7 cops get 26 years

Seven police officers including 2 DSPs have been punished in lawyers- burning cases at Sahiwal.

Judge of ATC Ch Munir Ahmad after proceedings of four years announced the judgment. DIG Javed Shah was released by getting the benefit of doubt. DSP Talat Ali, Moen Hafeez, 4 Inspectors Muhammad Akram, Shafqat Kambo, Azhar Gull and constable Ghulam Mustafa were awarded imprisonment for 26 years along with Rs 2/2 lacs as fine.These police officials were accused of throwing oil on the rally of lawyers set out for restoration of then sacked CJ Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry in which 29 lawyers were burnt.
