Cut in load shedding as shortfall slides to 1,700 megawatts
Electricity generation through hydro and independent power projects (IPPs) has gone up.
According to Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO), the demand of electricity in the country still stands at 16,130 megawatts. The current production of electricity reached 14,439 megawatts due to increase in power generation through hydro and independent power projects. This increase has lowered the duration of load shedding in the country.Independent power projects were generating 7,338 megawatts of electricity while the production of hydro power projects was 5,395 megawatts. Rental power projects were providing 173 megawatts of electricity. The decrease in shortfall has brought down the duration of load shedding to four hours in cities while it was seven hours in small towns. The PEPCO official informed that due to expected increase in the production of electricity through hydro projects during next few days would decrease load shedding further.
