WikiLeaks new cable revealed that Musharraf wanted to dissolve the National Assembly in 2008.

The cable sent by former US ambassador in Pakistan Anne Woods Patterson on July 25, 2008 divulged that Pervez Musharraf wanted the US backing for his presidency as he wanted to dissolve the National Assembly to prolong his tenure. Fear of public uprising refrained Musharraf from dissolving the government.According to the US diplomatic cable, Anne Patterson wrote that Nawaz Sharif had launched a campaign against Musharraf to mould public opinion in his favour.She wrote that Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani could ask Musharraf to quit respectfully.
