NAB DG stopped from holding official post

The DG claimed he cannot be removed by the law ministry, but the court rejected his point of view.

The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday stopped National Accountability Director (NAB) director general Rana Zahid Mehmood from working on the post.Azhar Siddique, the counsel for petitioner Shah Faisal, informed the court that Mehmood’s contract as the NAB director general expired on April 21, 2011, therefore, he was not eligible to work on the post.The two-member bench, comprising Justice Sheikh Ahmad Farooq and Justice Muhammad Qasim Khan, agreed with the counsel. Mehmood said that the law ministry could not remove him as he was appointed by the NAB chairman.In its short order, the court stopped Mehmood from holding the official post and also from using the facilities.After the decision, Mehmood’s son Talha manhandled the petitioner outside the court. Shah Faisal has moved an application before the court against Talha.
