Multinational pharmaceutical admits selling substandard product

A noted multinational company admitted that it was selling a substandard Paracetamol.

The Senate Standing Committee on Health session presided over by Senator Kalsoom Perven review the matter of selling substandard Paracetamol by a multinational company. The multinational company admitted that they came to know about the flaws of the medicine since they were published in newspapers and the company conducted a fact finding research.The representatives of the company said that they removed the stock of their medicine from the market upon knowing the defects. Federal Health Minister Riaz Hussain Pirzada told the committee that a technical board was established to look into the matter.The committee recommended that the company should dispose of its medicine and its licence should also be cancelled.The health minister said that it would take one and a half year to devolve the ministry to the provinces. He said that health and education ministries should be kept under the federal government. The committee ordered the Health Ministry to issue grant for Bannu Medical Collage, besides immediately releasing Rs 111 million budget of Sheikh Zayed Hospital.
