China expresses deep sorrow over loss of lives in Pakistan earthquake

BEIJING (Dunya News) – China today (Sept. 25) has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of precious lives and forwarded heartfelt sympathies towards the injured of the tragic earthquake that rattled parts of Pakistan including Azad Kashmir.

Spokesperson to Chinese Foreign Minister Geng Shuan expressed during his regular briefing, “We extend condolences to the bereaved families and injured and mourn the victims”.

He went on to say that the China is closely following the earthquake in Pakistan. “China and Pakistan had the good tradition of mutual assistance”, he asserted adding "We will provide assistance at the request of Pakistan."

So far, at least 37 people lost their lives and more than 500 others sustained injuries in an earthquake that rattled Azad Kashmir, local officials informed, but they added that rescue work was in full swing and panic was subsiding.

Meteorological Department said that according to its preliminary assessment, the epicentre of the 5.8-magnitude quake was located near the mountainous city of Jehlum in the Punjab province.

"The quake was 10 kilometres deep and was felt in most of Punjab province, some parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The worst hit was Mirpur, Azad Kashmir," Chief meteorologist Muhammad Riaz told.
