Jirgas do not follow law and constitution: SC

Apex court asked all provincial and GB governments to submit progress report in next six weeks.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday asked all provincial governments and Gigit Baltistan government to submit the progress report in a case pertaining to illegal Jirgas. The court remarked that the Jirgas conducted in the country do not follow the constitution and are against the international covenants that Pakistan has signed.
As per details, a three member bench under acting Chief Justice Azmat Saeed heard a case pertaining to illegal Jirgas in the country.
Advocate General Punjab said there were no cases of illegal Jirgas in Punjab to which Justice Azmat remarked that sometimes such cases surface from Punjab too.
The court said these jirgas do not work under the ambit of law and constitution. The court ordered to implement its ruling in this regard. Apex court asked all provincial and GB governments to submit progress report in next six weeks.
