ZAB reference case: Bhutto was killed before hanging, says Babar

The Punjab Advocate General could not produce the record of Bhutto murder case in the court.

An eleven-member bench of Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry conducted the hearing on Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto reference case. The Punjab Advocate General could not present the record of Icchra police station.The Chief Justice said that this case has been filed for review in this court after 40 years and the court requires the original record to know that why Bhutto’s closed case surfaced up now.The CJP remarked that Justice Shafi-ur Rehman also remarked that Bhutto case should be reinvestigated. The Chief Justice remarked that the court would not review the case but would confine its opinion to the questions asked by the President of Pakistan.Justice Saer Ali said that the case could be wrapped up within hours due to technical reasons but the bench was conducting the case with open-mindedness.Counsel for the federal government Babar Awan said that no medical officer confirmed Bhutto’s death after hanging. A written document was present in the record that Bhutto was killed before he was hanged, Babar added.
