KARACHI (Dunya News) – The strike of Young Doctors Association (YDA) against Medical Teaching Institutions (MTI) Reform Act entered its fourth consecutive day on Monday as thousands of patients suffer intense difficulties due to shutdown of Outpatient Departments (OPDs) in government-run hospitals.

The patients, who came from far flung areas, were facing difficulties in treatment due to the strike.

According to details, OPDs of major hospitals in Rawalpindi, Multan Faisalabad, Lahore and other cities have been closed to record the protest. They also staged sit-ins outside the OPDs where they asked the government to withdraw the MTI Act.

The workers of para-medical staff are also among the protesters.

The YDA has stated that the strike at OPDs will continue till the acceptance of their demands. Their demands include stopping of the possible privatisation of hospitals and implementation of MTI act, announcement of the service structure and provision of security to doctors.

In Peshawar, Young Nurses Association has also vowed to continue protesting until the demands are accepted.

The demands include an increase in pay, proper service structure and regularisation of their services. Protesters have announced that they reject the Regional Health Authority and District Health Authority.
