LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Punjab Government has decided to immediately disburse Guzara allowance – a monthly grant meant for the chronic poor – prior to the Islamic month of Ramazan.

Besides, visually impaired people will also be granted Zakat allowances.

According to details, funds will be disbursed for 146,000 people across the province.

Punjab Zakat and Usher Minister Shaukat Ali Lalika is reported to have said that funds will also be released for 24,400 Zakat committees across the province.

The provincial government will release the pending amount of the last six months in two installments, three months each.

Furthermore, the government is also analysing a possible increase in allowance for visually impaired persons from the current Rs1,500 to Rs2,000 on a monthly basis.

It will be the first time that deserving and blind poverty-stricken people are granted financial aid in a form of Zakat in the current tenure of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led government.

As of October 2014, Guzara allowance is paid through easy-paisa, which is relatively faster, more convenient and more transparent through Biometrics verfication System(BVS).
