Only Rs 40 million could be recovered out of Rs 460 million embezzled money, says CJP

A six-member larger bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, on Friday resumed the hearing of the hajj corruption case.The court was told that FIA Additional Director General Javed Bukhari and Director Hussain Asghar had been transferred.The CJP remarked that the investigation process had been ruined by the transfers of the officials. An official, who shows some progress, is transferred. In this situation, he said, only one option was left that the investigation should be handed over to the interior secretary. He said thatthe new FIA Director Malik Iqbal was himself involved in criminal cases.The CJP said that out of Rs 460 million embezzled money, only Rs 40 million could be recovered that also with the assistance of a neighbouring country. He gave one week to the FIA director general to complete the investigations.During the hearing, Justice Javed Iqbal said that no instructions had been issued to harass the journalists who had performed hajj on the government expenses. The case has been adjourned until April 29.
