The applicant has stated that Shahbaz Sharif was under trial in corruption charges.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday postponed the proceedings pertaining to an application filed against opposition leader Shahbaz Sharif for holding the chairmanship of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

Reportedly, Justice Shahid Waheed heard the application filed by a citizen Javed Iqbal Qazi, who has challenged the decision of Prime Minister Imran Khan, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and other concerned officials for granting the chairmanship of the PAC to Shahbaz Sharif.

The applicant has stated that the person under trial in corruption charges could not be allotted the chairmanship as the accountability process should be transparent.

The applicant has further pointed out that as PAC’s chairman, Shahbaz Sharif could influence and pressurize the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and other concerned departments.

The application has pleaded with the court to cancel his appointment, however the court adjourned the hearing.
