ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Azam Swati on Thursday resigned as Federal Minister for Science and Technology following Supreme Court’s (SC) order to launch trial against him under Article 62 (1)(f) in a case regarding transfer of Islamabad Inspector General of Police (IG) Jan Muhammad.

The minister said that he has submitted his resignation letter to Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan.

Earlier, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar said that the court had gone through the report prepared by joint investigation team. The top judge had also asked IG Amir Zulfiqar about the details over which, the police official said that the case was under hearing in the court.

It is pertinent here to mention that Islamabad IG was transferred over not picking telephone of Federal Minister for Science and Technology Azam Khan Swati.

The minister alleged that he called the high-ranked police official for 22 hours but latter did not bother to pick his phone.

The Supreme Court had later suspended the notification of transfer of Islamabad Inspector General of Police (IG) Jan Mohammad.
