Pakistan suffers from electricity theft amounting to 200 billion rupees every year.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The government has decided to form several task forces comprising chief ministers in its bid to clamp down on massive power theft across the country.

The provincial task forces will be tasked to effectively monitor an anti-power theft campaign, which would be initiated all the way from federal level and then be expanded to district level.

Experts while lauding the government’s resolve have stressed the need to up-grade the system as well as carry out an efficient campaign against power theft.

They say the government may generate 400 billion rupees if it starts collecting dues from defaulters; a move that would reduce the urgency to increase electricity tariff.
