PML-N rejects Aitzaz as candidate for president
The PML-N considers Abdul Qadir Balochs name for its candidate for the post of president
LAHORE (Dunya News) – Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) leaders Syed Khursheed Shah and Mian Raza Rabbani on Tuesday met delegation of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) to discuss the forthcomming election of the country’s president as the PPP seeks support of the PML-N and other parties for its presidential nominee Aitzaz Ahsan.
Sources said that Khursheed Shah and Raza Rabbani met Ahsan Iqbal, Ayaz Sadiq and Rana Tanveer at Shehbaz Sharif’s residence in Lahore.
Sources said that the PLM-N has asked the PPP leaders to withdraw the nomination Aitzaz Ahsan for the post of president.
The PML-N is also considering Abdul Qadir Baloch’s name for its candidate for the post of president.
PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal said that the opposistion wishes to field a joint candidate for the top slot, adding that more dialogues will be held between the opposition after Eid.
He said that Farhatullah Babar had said Aitzaz Ahsan was not the final candidate. “Speculations regarding the presidential candidate should be avoided,” he added.
Earlier, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) abstained from polls for leader of the House. The PPP had decided not to support PML-N candidate Shehbaz Sharif in prime minister (PM) polls citing latter’s statements against Asif Ali Zardari in the past.
While responding to PPP’s decision, former Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah had termed ongoing cases of money laundering against Asif Ali Zardari and his sister Faryal Talpur as main cause behind not voting for Shehbaz Sharif.
On the other hand, ‘grand opposition alliance’ is swiftly moving to its premature end as rifts have deepened within their ranks due to PPP’s ever-evolving stance.
