(WebDesk) - Two years back, today was the fateful day when a generation of lawyers was lost while protesting against the killing of robusts of their legal community. A deadly blast hit the Quetta and engulfed more than 70 lives. The horrific incident jolted the capital of Balochistan, bleed the television screens red and mourned the nation.

Second death anniversary of a lost generation is being observed today in the lamented city, Quetta.

It was a hapless morning of August 08, 2016 when a senior lawyer Bilal Anwar Kasi was gunned down by the militants. He had taken to the Civil Hospital’s emergency department. Right after the news was broken out; a large number of enraged lawyers were gathered at the hospital. Amidst the congeal crowd, a suicide bomber exploded himself in the horde of legal community gathered to stage protest against the killing of senior legal fraternity and fell victim of the irreverent plan of militants.

Nation observes the second death anniversary of a generation lost in the deadliest  Quetta Carnage 


The bloodiest incident took more than 70 lives, 100s were injured. Many of the dead included lawyers; several of them are senior members of the fraternity.

Among the martyrs, journalists from different private news channels have also became the prey of the deadliest blast.

Two of the photo journalists, Mahmood Khan and Shahzad Khan lost their lives in the line of their duty along with the Dunya News and other cameramen injured while covering the protest of the lawyers at the CMH, Quetta.

Two years have been passed; even the journalist fraternity could not overcome with the tragedy of Quetta carnage. Remembering the deceased Dawn TV’s journalist Shahzad Khan, fellow Dunya News’ photo journalist said that after being injured in the blast, he was taken to the CMH. Once he regained his conscious and learnt about the loss of his fellow cameramen, he had broken into tears and won;’t ever be able to explain what had he gone through.

On the second death anniversary, journalists and other took to the twitter to remember their fellow martyred journalists along with other martyrs of Quetta carnage.


In the last two decades, hundreds of innocents from different walks of life including journalists are being targeted by militants in dozens of suicidal blasts and target killings. Despite the grievances, local journalists complain that the Journalistic associations of Balochistan are still failed to draft a precise line of action or framework to address the concerns of the journalists working in a fear of life.

In last two decades, more than 40 journalists have lost their lives in the line of duty.
