Oath-taking ceremony: Bench hearing petition against Imran Khan dissolved
Petitioner requested court to direct Reham Khan to submit evidence.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Bench hearing petition seeking to bar Imran Khan from taking oath as Pakistan’s prime minister (PM) has been dissolved, reported Dunya News.
As per details garnered, the bench has already reserved the verdict on the petition. Justice Amir Farooq resumed hearing of the plea filed by Hafiz Ahtsham. The petitioner alleged that Imran Khan was not eligible to take oath as country’s premier under Article-61, 62. Hafiz further went on to say that Reham Khan—former wife of cricketer-turned-politician—has hurled serious allegations against Khan in his controversial book.
The petitioner further added that Khan as prime minister will be a threat to Pakistan’s sovereignty. Hafiz called for thorough probe into the allegations stated in Reham’s book.
He requested court to direct Reham Khan to submit evidence against the allegations stated in the book.
Federation, Election Commission of Pakistan, Speaker National Assembly and Reham Khan have also been made plaintiffs in the petition.
After hearing arguments, bench reserved the verdict. Later, the bench was dissolved as Justice Amir Farooq removed himself from the bench. The issue has been forwarded to Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Saqib Nisar.
